The Grynd Report Catches up with Candice Shaw Tax Preparation expert and Franchise owner.

Thank You for spending time with The Grynd Report. Please Introduce yourself and tell us where you are from?

My name is Candice Shaw I’m originally from Chicago(south-side) But I currently reside in Indiana

Describe what it was like growing up in your city?

Growing up in the city of Chicago was fun we had things to do we had youth centers and we were able to attend festivals and had neighbors that we grew up with and we are all good friends to this day

When did you decide that creating a tax business/Franchise was something you wanted to do.

While working independently, I was first introduced to the franchise company by my dear friend Trina, who owns Tax Doctors in Houston. This introduction occurred approximately eight years ago when I was operating under my name, CCS. After a year, I decided to expand my division within the company, aiming for long-term success. Recognizing Unlimited as a nationally recognized brand, I saw the opportunity to franchise with them as a chance for growth and longevity. As a Black woman from the southside of Chicago, this opportunity to build a company under such a nationally recognized brand is a true blessing.

Explain why it is so important for businesses to have their taxes completed correctly?

Ensuring accurate completion of taxes is vital for meeting legal requirements, achieving financial precision, optimizing deductions, preventing audits, upholding reputation, and mitigating financial risks.

As the CEO of your own Tax preparation company what is different about your brand that separates you from others

As the CEO of my own tax business, what sets me apart from others is my dedication to personalized service, meticulous attention to detail, and commitment to staying updated on the latest tax laws and regulations. I prioritize building strong relationships with clients, understanding their unique needs, and providing tailored solutions to help them achieve their financial goals. Additionally, I strive to create a supportive and collaborative work environment for my team, fostering growth and excellence in our services.

What are some of the biggest mistakes you have seen when preparing taxes for businesses that come to you for the first time?

Some common mistakes I’ve seen with both personal and business taxes include incomplete record-keeping, misclassification of expenses, lack of awareness about tax law changes, failure to claim all eligible deductions and credits, mixing personal and business finances, missing filing deadlines, and neglecting tax planning. These errors can lead to inaccurate filings, higher tax liabilities, and potential penalties. It’s essential for individuals and businesses to stay organized, informed, and proactive in their tax affairs to ensure compliance and maximize savings.

With 19 plus years of experience what are some of the most common tax advantages businesses have that non business owners don’t?

With over 19 years of business ownership experience, individuals enjoy benefits including income control, tax deductions, flexible scheduling, wealth-building, legacy creation, networking, personal growth, community growth, and the ability to employ others. These factors contribute to financial success and personal growth. The ultimate goal is to establish a service-based business in the community, utilizing funds to employ locals, impart new skills, promote sustainability, and provide additional income opportunities for low to moderate-income families.

In what way do you see your business expanding in the future?

As the former owner of 13 storefronts across the country, I experienced both the joys and challenges of business expansion. Looking ahead, I envision my business growing through geographical expansion, service diversification, technology integration, community engagement, sustainable practices, employee development, and a continued focus on exceptional customer service. My goal is to maintain leadership in the industry while making a positive impact on customers and communities.

What advice would you give to future entrepreneurs looking to start their own tax preparation business?

Unlike businesses that operate under different names, we stand behind our brand to deliver quality service. While I haven’t been with the company for a decade yet, Unlimited Taxes has a strong industry presence and reputation. Our name reflects our commitment to limitless possibilities.
