The Grynd Reports exclusive interview w/ MC Blak @OfficialMCBlak

Thank you for spending time with us MC Blak, please introduce yourself and tell us where you’re from?
What’s good world, it’s ya boy Master Cat, MC Blak. 1st thing 1st I was born in Texas raised in
Bama in a small town called Scottsboro, on the north side in an area called The Hill.

What was life like growing up in your city?
Life in Scottsboro growing up is adventurous yet frustrating as well. It’s adventurous because
the place is so small but so big at the same time. You grow up knowing everyone as friends or
family for the most part. You see the same folks everyday so you build bonds with them and
over time you learn each other’s dreams, goals and aspirations. So it’s builds this sense of being
a success into you that you take everywhere. And because it is a small town, you build memories
everyday of just doing shit, random shit at that. But once you begin to age the frustration begins
to set in. Because the town is so small, people tend to find themselves in things all the time,
whether it’s something to do with the law or something about unnecessary confrontations with
people you grew up with or from a totally different place or over some love interest. You just
find yourself in some mess, that on the regular is avoidable. And because of that, you watch this
cycle of loved ones falling into a trap over and over, praying that you don’t become a fixture in
the trap with them. You grow up around so many talented, gifted people that are full of promise
but none of them never make it. They just fall into this cycle called Scottsboro. It happens
generation after generation, class after class, so it just becomes very apparent. And most of the
time, you feel like you HAVE to leave to beat it or you will become next.

How did you get started in the music business?
I fell in love with music at an early age. I remember being 4 listening and watching my uncle’s,
Joski and Coolie B, rap and make music in the house and I knew then that’s what I wanted out of
life. I started recording myself at 15, I found a free program called Audacity and started
recording myself at my uncle’s house. I made a song my sophomore year in high school and
everything ended up taking off from there, getting me to where I am now.

We read that your name MC Blak stands for ‘Master Cat Born Loyal Amongst Kings’, please give our readers so more incite on how you come up with it.
I came up with the name MC Blak (Master Cat Born Loyal Amongst Kings) after researching and
learning more about the culture and history of rap/hip-hop. My name started off as TallBlack in
the beginning. After moving to Texas, I changed it to Blak, to be shorter and quicker. But with a
bunch of people having that name already I wanted it to stand for something so I came up with
the acronym for it. Born Loyal Amongst Kings, that was my way of branding myself to be
different and to come into my own. “MC” was added on after I got to a point where I felt that I
was confident enough in my abilities as a rapper to hold my own. “Master Cat” came from my
personality, I’m smooth, chill and but still have pride in myself. I survive through it all like an
alley cat and I’m the master of my own abilities. The Master Cat.

You have a new single ‘Dressing’ tell us more about it and where it’s available.
Dressing is a song about the feelings you get when you put clothes on and you start to feel
yourself. You can have on sweats, gym-shorts or a shirt and tie and still be dressing. It’s a frame
of mind, a mindset and a confidence reminder to yourself to embrace yourself and your
differences. Dressing is available on all major streaming apps: Spotify, Apple Music, Tidal, Itunes,
