The Grynd Report interviews artist Homemadesoul | @homemadesoul

What’s going on Homemadesoul? Please introduce yourself to our readers.
Homemadesoul is a church boy from Philly who was brainwashed into believing that anything outside of going to church was a ticket to hell in the afterlife…I escaped and found real joy and love in my adult years through music, family and friends, pause…no new friends

What was life like growing up in your city?
I grew up sheltered…got a taste of the real world while attending public school, but didn’t really let loose until two years of partying at Temple University. I flunked out of the architecture program and then joined the military. I didn’t know it, I was constantly searching for an alternative to the brainwashing of religion. So I was quiet and conflicted at times.

How did music become your passion?
Music was always natural, the same brainwashed upbringing I endured during my childhood, also instilled the talent and gift to sing, write and play music. It wasn’t until after I joined the military, and connected with other indie artist, that I found myself yearning to record and then release what I was creating.

Give us the background on your name Homemadesoul.
Homemadesoul is an ongoing attempt to describe “original music from the soul”. Staying true to my sound and my style has always been important.

You have a new single called ‘I Vow’, tell us more about it.
This song was written in 2007, as the greatest love song ever written. It was released and was virtually unheard for 10 years. Then in 2017, the song was placed into a Cartoon Network show called “Amazing World of Gumball”. This generated interest and a new fan base of listeners around the world.

What’s Homemadesoul’s definition of Grynd?
Grynd is getting 8 hours of sleep in order to wake up at 5am, workout, shower, eat a good breakfast, send the right emails, take the right meetings, record 2 new songs, spend quality time with family, constantly stay positive and get back to bed to do it all again. I am now a believer that Quality of work ethic is more important than quantity.
