Plugged In Feature: Carmen Diego

Born Stephanie Mitchell in Norfolk, Virginia now hailing from the Tar Heel state of North Carolina whose grind within the independent sector of the music industry dates back to the early 2000s.  A multifaceted entertainer, Stephanie performs under the stage name Carmen Diego, a pseudonym she adopted from globetrotting cartoon character Carmen San Diego.   Presently working on her debut album as yet untitled, Carmen is enjoying the momentum created by her recent release an ep titled 2 Up 2 Down; an homage to her birthplace, 2 Up 2 Down in context aims at painting a picture of the reality of life in her hometown (Norfolk.). Lead by the up-tempo single, “Trap Phone” the project is highlighted by a multitude of sounds wide in range. Another stand out track is the R&B themed “Different.”

“I’m a multifaceted music recording artist who sings, writes, and dabbles in rapping. I create and record my own content in the comfort of my own space, as well as took on the role as the visionary behind the artwork for my releases and the creative director of my brand”

Singing since the age of 5, Carmen called the church, community, and of course school stages her home as she groomed herself to meet her potential.  A member of a short-lived girl group Carmen would frequent local studios with DJs and producers alike building her network and discography.

“My ultimate goal in music is to make music that is timeless and create moments that will live within people for a lifetime.  I want the world to know that I am finally beginning to believe in myself after doubting myself for so long. That in and of itself is empowering for my listeners.”
